Why the Southeast?
States across the Southeastern United States face persistent and disproportionate maternal and child health challenges, including high rates of maternal mortality, infant mortality, chronic disease, and structural inequities that affect families across the lifespan. While each state has unique strengths and challenges, the region shares common barriers: limited access to care especially in rural communities, persistent racial inequities, structural racism, healthcare and workforce shortages, and fragmented systems of support and care for families. Despite these shared barriers, opportunities for coordinated regional collaboration remain limited.
The Healthy Futures Foundation is supporting forming the Southeastern Regional Maternal and Child Health Alliance. This alliance is a multi-state, cross-sector partnership designed to share expertise, strengthen collective capacity and create unified advice through collaborative innovation and programs that help build resiliency and sustain the maternal and child health workforce.
